The Year in Review

2019 has turned out to be a pretty great year for me artistically. I moved into a new studio in February and I have lots of ideas and inspiration for more art. So many ideas that I wish I had more time to spend creating but for now I’m doing the best I can to keep up with my own excitement and motivation. I have really enjoyed improving my skills in cartoneria and painting with acrylics. Each new sculpture helps me to get more refined and confident in my design choices.

This is my latest cartoneria sculpture and it was a lot of fun to make. Truthfully, though, it took me a really long time to complete because I frequently struggled with the shape of this sculpture as well as during the painting process. I must have tried at least three times before I felt like I got the color scheme and design right. There was a lot of painting over previous attempts. But overall I am happy with the final results.

I am also very excited to have learned a new art technique this year: quilling. It feels really good seeing how far I’ve come along from the time I first started teaching myself how to do it to where I am now. Just a couple of weeks ago I got the idea to make Christmas cards to sell in my Etsy Shop but I realized quickly that I wouldn’t have enough time to get them complete and ready for sale before the holidays ended. So now I have designs ready for next year and will definitely start making them well before December.

After the first of the year I am going to spend a lot more time on my quilling so that I will have a good selection of new items for sale in my shop. I have a feeling that 2020 is going to a good year too.
